Mobile Food Pantry Driver

The Mobile Pantry Driver is responsible for ensuring all items needed for mobile pantry are properly loaded/ unloaded on the van, provides transportation to the mobile sites and assists in distribution while at the mobile site.
The Mobile Pantry Driver reports to the Executive Director at 16004 East Walsted Drive. The schedule for this position is Wednesday-Friday 11:30-4:30 in the fourth week of each month. This is a Part-time position 15 hours for one week per month.

Responsibilities:

  • Properly and safely drive the agency owned vehicles.
  • Ensure that proper maintenance of the Van is upheld at all times; any maintenance needs and/ or repairs must be reported to the Executive Director immediately.
  • Work with Volunteers to set up and pack up the distribution area at mobile sites.
  • Ensure that all commodities are properly dated and transported to mobile site locations according to USDA food handling standards.
  • Load and unload deliveries into assigned storage facilities.
  • Ensure that the distribution space is properly set up before the program starts operations, including working with partnership staff/volunteers to ensure the room is set up for pantry distribution.
  • When necessary, participate in the maintenance of inventory for all food and program related supply and ensure appropriate storage of delivered items.
  • Assist with other maintenance and program operations or other duties as assigned by the Executive Director
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years working within a food pantry or food bank, mobile operational experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with food or food related operations within a non-profit setting is preferred.
  • Commitment to helping communities in need and USFP’s work and mission.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills required.
  • High school diploma or the equivalent is required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
  • Experience driving a box truck may be required.
  • Able to lift heavy boxes of 50 lbs is a must.
  • Certified in Food Safety by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be extremely organized and able to multitask.
  • Weekend work may be necessary.
